A comet in the sky!

By: Akintola Ashraf Akintayo

When the angel of death comes knocking
With white tufts of hair on my head
Or as a surprise to collect my soul
To my creator.
Either I am ready or not would not matter
Afterall, all souls shall taste death
Mine would not be an exception
Because when death comes,
It would just be a moment passing!

No matter how powerful I become
Or how far my reach can grip
Rivers would alter their course
The sun would not eclipse its shine
Because when death comes,
It would just be a moment passing!

Friends and ally in shock would ask-
The angel of death why should it be now for all their care?
Tell glowing tales of my deeds,
Conceal my flaws and seek Gods mercy for my departed soul
Because when death comes,
It would just be a moment passing!

Tears they would shed
But food they would eat
Drinks they would devour
And with their women-
they would not stop being intimate
Life is too sweet for it to stop at my passing
Because when death comes,
It would just be a moment passing!

My wife(ves) would learn to live as a widow
And find another heartthrob to spend their earthly pleasures
My children would know who I am
But would learn to call another man father!
For their days are still long
Their life, too sweet for it to stop
Because when death comes
It would just be a moment passing!

We are born, we live, we die, and life goes on
We love, we laugh, we cry, so forth, so on.
Death is a function of life that clocks
On us when its time comes
Just like we landed here at the appointed hour
So shall we leave without notice.

Death is a humbling unifier
You are not so special that life would stop
Whenever it is that you have been chosen to die
Deceive your soul right now if you may,
No one would love you so much to follow you to your grave.

You came alone!
You die alone!
Because when my death comes
It would just be a moment passing in your life
And when the moment comes
Do not pity me so!
Because you also sooner or later
Would become just as I am
Forgotten? Remembered?
A comet in the sky!
