LASG Demolished Over 2,500 Illegal Structures in Lekki

Lagos State Government demolished over 2,500 illegal houses in Marwa, Lekki area of the state for road construction.

The state agency who carried out the demolition gave the occupants of Marwa coastal area only 7days removal notice before demolishing their abode without providing any alternative. The situation had led to the homelessness of thousands of people including women and children and loss of property worth millions in naira.

After the exercise, the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the demolition is inevitable as the state set to begin construction of a road that will serve as alternative to the often congested Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The Lagos Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit carried out a demolition exercise of over 2,500 illegal structures built in Marwa Waterside area in Lekki, yesterday subsequent to the expiration of a seven-day removal notice.

This exercise became imperative as we begin preparation for the commencement of the construction of the coastal road that would serve as an alternative route for the Lekki-Epe expressway.
