EFFC Arrest RIFAN Chairman and other over Diversion of Fertilizer

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Alhaji Rijiya Ibrahim, the Chairman of Rice Farmers Affiliation of Nigeria (RIFAN) in Gumi Local Government Area of Sokoto state over alleged diversion of fertilizer, Nigeria news Live.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Sokoto, Mr Abdullahi Lawal, the Head of the EFCC Zonal Office in control of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, stated that Ibrahim and two others have been arrested following petitions by seven teams of rice farmers associations within the area.

“It was revealed that Ibrahim connived with one Aminu Musa, storekeeper of Gumi local government area and diverted three vans of fertilizer and a truck of insecticides and pesticides.

“These belong to members of rice farmers affiliation within the local government allotted to them by the Nationwide Headquarter of RIFAN as part of the Federal authorities help to the farmers.

“Nevertheless, investigation has revealed that the 2 suspect offered the products to 1 Abdullahi Bashir, a businessman.

“Furthermore, all of the three suspects have been arrested and so far the three vans of fertilizer are virtually recovered and energy is now been made to get well different chemical substances,” he stated.

Lawal stated that the three truck load of fertilizer was valued at N12.42 million whereas the pesticides and pesticides price N4.68 million, making a total of N17.1 million value of products diverted.

He stated that the three suspects had confessed to commission of the offences and would quickly be charged to courtroom over conspiracy, diversion of products and financial sabotage amongst different crimes.
