Kidnappers Reveal why They Terrorize Zamfara Community

Some repentant bandits in Tsafe Local Government area of Zamfara, on Monday defined why they took up arms against the individuals of the area, Nigeria News Live .

The ex-bandits stated at a peace assembly in Tsafe that they have been harassed and intimidated by the police and vigilantes, locally referred to as ”Yan Sakai, into becoming bandits and kidnappers.

Through the assembly held on the palace of the Emir of Tsafe, Alhaji Muhammadu Bawa, one of the bandits commanders, Hassan Dantawaye, stated they have been unjustly treated by the federal government and society.

“We were compelled into this, because other than cattle rustling incidents we confronted some years back, we additionally faced severe harrassment and intimidation from security personnel and ”Yansakai.

“We can’t go to markets, our children can’t go to highschool, every time they see our youngsters or wives in town they killed them.

“If safety personnel arrest us, we have to spend alot of cash before we’re released, sometimes security agencies launch assaults on our homes and kill us without any offence.

“With this ugly trend, we’ve no choice than to embark on kidnapping, assaults and others crimes”, Dantawaye stated.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Nagoggo who chaired the assembly, described the security scenario confronted by the state in past as unfortunate.

Nagoggo stated, “I remember the day I arrived this state as commissioner of police, over 30 individuals have been killed in Shinkafi local government area.

“After figuring out the measures to tackle the problem, the state government got here up with the peace and diologue initiative with the fighters as a part of measures to offer lasting resolution to the issue.

“We embarked on consultation with Fulani leaders, Civilian JTF, and Vigilante Teams which led to the successes we’re recording at the moment.

Bawa stated the emirate would continue to help the state government to make sure that the diologue succeeds.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recollects that the state governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle initated the peace dialogue as a part of measures to finish banditry, kidnapping and different crimes within the state.

The meeting in Tsafe was attended by repentant bandits’ commanders, members of the CJTF, officers of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and members of the outlawed ”Yansakai local vigilantes.
