Ighalo Bows Out of International Football

Super Eagles striker, Odion Jude Ighalo retires from the Nigeria national team following an injury sustained in the 3rd place match of AFCON 2019 in Egypt. He is the second Nigeria player to retire in 2019 after former captain, John Mikel Obi.

Ighalo scored 15 goals in 34 appearances for the national team. He was the highest goal scorer in the qualifiers to Egypt with 7goals. Also, he came out of AFCON Egypt 2019 with 5goals, and got the golden boot as the player with the highest goal scorer.

He announced his retirement on social media with an emotional remark. Odion thanks coach Gehnot Rohr for opportunity given to him, his players for their professionalism and particularly Nigeria football fans for their unflinching support.
