The fate of the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France has been sealed following the completion of all the group stage matches on Thursday.

Nigeria News Live reports that Cameroon’s 2-1 victory over New Zealand earlier in the day compounded the pressure on Nigeria, leaving the clash between Chile and Thailand as the ultimate decider of the Super Falcon’s fate.

Chile needed to beat Thailand by three goals to be in place for a spot in the Round of 16. But in the end, the game ended 2-0 in their favour, thus, allowing Nigeria to progress as one of the best third-placed teams. It was an extraordinary end to proceedings in Rennes as Chile were awarded a penalty when they were two goals up, but Francisca Lara’s effort struck the crossbar!

Thomas Dennerby’s ladies will now face Germany on Saturday.
