Kogi, bayelsa Guber Election postponed

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has picked another date for the Bayelsa and Kogi state governorship elections, Nigeria News Live reviews.

The commission says the elections, initially slated for November 2, will now maintain on November 16.

Festus Okoye, INEC director of voter education and publicity, made this known in an announcement on Thursday. He says the change in date was resulting from numerous appeals for the commission to reschedule the polls.

Some stakeholders from Bayelsa state had urged INEC to alter the election date because it coincides with the state’s annual ‘Thanksgiving Day’ which is backed by regulation.

“After cautious consideration of the appeals, the Commission at its regular weekly assembly held right this moment, Thursday 16th May, decided to shift the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States to Saturday 16th November 2019,” the assertion reads.

“The timelines for all different activities resulting in the elections have additionally been adjusted to align with the brand new date.”

In the amended timetable and schedule of actions for the elections, the conduct of party primaries and resolution of any dispute would hold between August 18 and September 5, whereas campaigns may also start on August 18.

Personal particulars of candidates can be revealed on September 16, while official register of voters could be revealed on October 3, with campaigns ending on November 14.
