The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC has disclosed it might meet next week to take a choice on the newest letter written by the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, challenging its powers to withhold his Certificates of Return.

Okorocha was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the February 23 Imo West Senatorial election.

The commission withheld his certificates of return after the Presiding Officer had declared him winner of the election. INEC claimed the declaration was made under duress.

Okorocha, amongst other measures to reclaim his mandate, wrote the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, insisting it was illegal for the Commission to disclaim him a certificates of return as senator-elect.

Reacting yesterday in Abuja, Festus Okoye, INEC commissioner for info and voter education, said that although each parties have been in court over the problem, the commission’s chairman would meet with commissioners to deliberate on the problem and resolve on the following line of action.

“INEC chairman will meet subsequent week with Commissioners to deliberate on the most recent letter written by Okorocha and check out the issue once more. Each parties are in court, but the INEC chairman is outdoors the nation and most of the commissioners are on duty,” Okoye mentioned.

The INEC Commissioner further said that the commission was not involved about feedback attributed to the Governor on the problem, stressing that it would, nevertheless, not take any action that’s outside the legislation.

“The case is in court however we imagine what we’re doing is in accordance with the law,” Okoye added.
