Shocking: Prison Inmate Who gave Birth to Twins is Dead

The Nigerian Prisons Service, Cross River State Command, has disclosed the Awaiting Trial Female  inmate of the Afokang Jail in Calabar (identify withheld), who was delivered of dual on April 17, has died, Nigeria news live.

An announcement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Effanga Etim, stated she gave birth via Caesarean section to a boy and a girl however died on April 19 attributable to  Birth complications.

Naija News Live, The Command debunked reports that she gave delivery inside the jail, insisting she delivered at the General Hospital in Calabar, the place she had been receiving regular ante-natal care.

The assertion reads: “The Nigeria Prisons Service, Cross River State Command has acquired with dismay media reports insinuating that an Awaiting Trial Female (ATF) inmate of Calabar Prison was delivered of twins inside the jail facility.

“The report isn’t true because the stated inmate was remanded by a High Court in Calabar on fifth November, 2018 with six (6) month-old pregnancy for the offense of kid stealing.

“Whereas in jail, she had been under regular ante-natal care at the General Hospital, Calabar.

‘’On the 17th of April, 2019 by 1:30pm when her labour started, she was admitted in the same hospital and a caesarean section was carried out on her.

“With the intervention of the Cross River state Commissioner of Well being, and the efforts of the Jail authority to supply the funds wanted for the caesarean part, the stated inmate was delivered of twins: a boy and a lady.

‘’Nevertheless, as a result of complications arising from the caesarean section, she was referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for additional administration, the place she died on 19th April, 2019.
