National Minimum Wage: Buhari Approves N30,000 For Nigerian

President Muhammadu Buhari ascents to the bill that guarantees the sum of N30,000 minimum wage to Nigerian workers nationwide.

The new law affects and its binding on all class of employers which includes the Federal Government, State Governments and private establishments.

According to the Special Adviser to President Buhari on National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang, all employers must pay the minimum wage except the following :

  • An employer of 25 employees and below
  • In the case that an employee was told before accepting the job that the employer cannot pay up to the minimum wage and he conceded to the agreement.

Besides these, the lowest amount a worker in Nigeria should receive as salary is 30,000 naira. If the employer refuse to pay according to the law, the employee has the right to report to the Minister of Labour or its representative.
