Chadli celebrate the winner

Once again Russia springs another surprise with an astonishing, dramatic comeback in the history of the prestigious contest.

In history no team has ever staged a comeback from 2 goals in the FIFA World Cup knock-out stage since West Germany beat England in 1960.

History has however been re-written today by Japan and Belgium in Rostov as the later did the unimaginable.

Japan was ahead in the game early in the second half in the 48th minute. Three minutes later in the 51st minute, Inui bullet home the second for the Asian to add salt to the wound of the European.

All seems concluded but the sudden change started from the moment Belgium made the double substitution that brought in Fellaini and Chadli.

Belgium started playing aerial ball to capitalise on the height of their substitutes and that of their opponent that are relatively short.

Vertoghen nodded home an unbelievable goal from the corner of the goal post in the 69th minute. The comeback was completed by Fellaini five minutes later in 74th minute from a corner kick. He outlifted the Japan defence to perfectly nod home the hard earned equalizer.

The game became so tense, both teams scrambling for a winner to avoid a possibly penalty shoot-out.

Finally, we have a winner in the 94th minute, few seconds to end the game. Super sub Chadli profited from a Belgium counter attack started by Courtois and a very intelligent dummy by Lukaku to tap home  the winner.

Generally, it was one of the most interesting game in the world cup so far. Japan gave a good fight, Belgium did not relent.

It’s Belgium 3 Brazil 2.
